Impact/Purpose:

This study addresses social determinants of health as they relate to pollution impacts and how they're incorporated into local-scale exposure assessments. It highlights three case studies, health impact assessments, and recommendations to consider EJ. Long term impacts should reduce health risks in EJ communities of concern. For the assessor, decision-maker, community organizer, or researcher who wants to support EJ but isn’t exactly sure how.

Description:

This presentation includes three case studies related to citizen science, translational science, and land revitalization. It presents result of the studies and how they applied data and information to local-scale environmental health decision-making. The steps and elements of Health Impact Assessments are then presented as they relate to environmental justice. Then a few instrumental recommendations are presented to better include EJ in pollution burden and local-scale exposure assessments.
